At the end of June 2019, a proposal was submitted for the object named “Kletterblüte” (Climbing Flower) for the competition for the State Garden Show in 2020 in Ingolstadt. This is a participatory object, which on the one hand makes its mark in the garden landscape through its sculptural character and on the other hand serves as climbing and exercise equipment for the young.
Kletterblüte is an art object that puts into practice the theme of sustainability in a simple, striking form: through its visual quality, through the radiance of its form ands through its utility.
The visual quality draws on the association with a large flower, fully opened and directed to the sun, with a typical flower colour that is distinct from its green surroundings.
The radiance of its form is based on the linear elements that radiate in all directions from a central point. This centrifugal dynamic energy, moving outwards, emanates positive values, especially optimism. The geometrical abstraction creates a clear, easily comprehensible image that constantly changes as a viewer walks around it thanks to its open structure. It thus possesses a cinematic dimension.
The utility results from the interactive and participatory nature of the object. It invites visitors, especially children and young people, to climb. Beyond that it is a conspicuous landmark that encourages photography. Thus the object itself becomes part of the communication of the State Garden Show.
The Kletterblüte art object ideally suits a city in which Concrete Art is at home and is nurtured. It is an “Ingolstadt object”.
The metal rods (galvanised round steel profiles, or alternatively round aluminium profiles) have a diameter of 10 cm and a visible length of 470 cm. They are given a base coat and are then painted with Lascaux Artist acrylic paint. This ensures optimal intensity and durability of colour. The painted rods receive several layers of lacquer for UV protection. Light wear and tear can take place over time but does not detract from the overall impression. If repairs are desired, the painting technique creates the ideal conditions.
