For FLUX4ART 2020, the state art exhibition of Rhineland Palatinate, a site-specific work entitled “O-Ton Feuerlöscher” (The Fire Extinguisher in Its Own Words) was created for the exhibition site, Sayner Hütte (iron-casting plant) in Bendorf. The existing fire extinguisher was incorporated into the conception by including it in the design of the wall. In this way the fire extinguisher is animated. It is transformed from an object – from the tool of a function – into a creature that expresses itself through a speech bubble, in the imagined language of the fire extinguisher.

Of course the fire extinguisher remains in place and serves its practical purpose. It is merely placed in a different perceptual context by exemplifying the fact that all objects in our reality have a metaphysical background. A fire extinguisher is not only a functional item but at the same time a perceptible position in the poetic whole of the world.
